Eli Lilly is ranked first in the industry for the very first time in the 10th annual addition of the Pharmaceutical Innovation Index. The Pharmaceutical Invention Index places Bristol-Myers-Squib first among the industry’s leading pipelines.

The Innovation Index defines the term innovation as “return on invention”, with an emphasis on value development. The company’ potential to execute innovation to patients is assessed, ranked, and praised in this index by critically analyzing performance over a cumulative span of five years(2015-2020), and work on the basic principle that if the same molecule is provided to two different companies in their early stage of growth who would achieve the promising benefits from it?

This Pharmaceutical Innovation Index ranks the best pipelines in the industry based on novelty and substantive growth in areas such as first-in-class progress, innovative medicines, and much more.

Eli Lilly steadily emerged on top of the innovation index based on its numerous achievements in clinical trials, significant innovative FDA approvals, and promising success of newly released drugs. The top ten in the innovative index include two new entrants, Seagen and Incyte, and also the significant emerging firm, Regeneron, indicating that smaller firms are now more capable than before in delivering their products to the patients without relying on conventional big pharmaceutical partners. The importance of the Celgene acquisition of BMS’ pipeline is demonstrated by its first placement in the Invention ranking.

Mike Rea, Idea Pharma’s CEO  said: “There is no gaming the Pharmaceutical Innovation Index –success is achieved by discovering and developing meaningfully great medicines and getting those medicines to market, and patients. More than ever, we see that excellence is unevenly distributed across the industry – not every company is equally able to realize the value in their pipeline.”
