Suki announced Tuesday the release of Suki Dictation, an artificial intelligence-powered dictation solution designed for healthcare organizations. The tool is built directly into Epic and Meditech electronic health record (EHR) systems and can be implemented either as a standalone product or alongside Suki for Clinicians, the company’s ambient documentation platform.
According to Suki, clinicians can use the tool to generate notes automatically, edit notes by speaking into a microphone when needed, and place documentation directly into the EHR. The company said the solution is intended to provide flexibility in how clinicians document patient encounters.
Suki also said the product is available to healthcare technology companies through its application programming interfaces (APIs) and software development kits (SDKs). According to the company, this allows organizations to embed AI dictation capabilities directly into their own products.
Company Positions Tool as Alternative to Bundled Documentation Software
Suki Chief Product Officer Abhi Pathak said the company created the product because healthcare organizations should be able to purchase only the technology they need.
“Healthcare has accepted a false choice for too long: either buy massive documentation licenses or give up modern AI dictation,” Pathak said.
Pathak said clinicians deserve flexibility in how they document care and that health systems should have the freedom to purchase only the capabilities they require. He said bringing AI dictation and ambient documentation together on a single platform gives organizations a choice rather than forcing a compromise.
The company stated that clinical documentation is not the same for every provider or clinical setting. It cited examples including highly specialized care, nuanced note types, sensitive patient conversations, and individual provider preferences as situations that may require verbatim dictation.
Suki also noted that verbatim dictation is particularly important in surgery, emergency medicine, critical care, and procedural medicine, where procedure details, operative reports, and complex documentation must be recorded accurately. The company referenced research published in The American Surgeon reporting that inadequate operative reports can contribute to coding errors and reimbursement losses.
Physician Describes Experience Using the Product
One clinician using Suki Dictation is Edward P. Mintz, M.D., a pulmonary and critical care physician at Witham Medical Group.
Mintz said the solution has become an important part of his documentation workflow because it allows him to combine automatically generated notes with typing or dictation when more specific clinical details, instructions, or coding information are needed. He said the tool helps him complete documentation more efficiently while ensuring notes accurately reflect the complexity of patient care.
Pathak has shared that feedback from clinicians participating in pilot programs has been positive.
He also said the company is not seeking to compete by locking customers into larger software bundles and instead aims to give clinicians and health systems the ability to choose the tools they need.
Future Development Areas Identified by Suki
Suki said organizations can deploy Suki Dictation as a standalone replacement for existing dictation products or alongside Suki’s ambient documentation technology. Through the company’s APIs and SDKs, healthcare technology firms can also integrate the dictation functionality into their own software products.
Pathak said documentation dictation is the company’s “entry point, not the destination.” He identified several areas for future development, including next-generation streaming speech recognition, conversational voice editing, AI-assisted procedure note generation, intelligent voice commands, and interactive clinical assistance that would allow clinicians to retrieve patient information and complete documentation without leaving the EHR.
