Reckitt is investing up to $600 million over several years to expand and modernize its U.S. operations, with the spending focused on strengthening domestic manufacturing, expanding research and development capabilities, and improving supply-chain resilience.

Investment Will Cover Two Major U.S. Sites
The multi-year investment will focus on Reckitt’s North American campus in Nutley, New Jersey, and its manufacturing facility in Wilson, North Carolina.
The company said it employs more than 4,000 people across seven U.S. manufacturing sites and three science and innovation centers. The latest investment will bring some of its commercial and research functions together while increasing domestic manufacturing capacity.
The plans come as Reckitt seeks to make its U.S. operations more responsive to changes in consumer demand and improve the resilience of its supply network.
New Jersey Campus to Become R&D Hub
At its Nutley headquarters, Reckitt plans to build a new science and innovation center focused on areas including disinfection, microbiology, surface care, laundry care and personal care.
The facility will serve as a major research and development hub for the company’s global operations, including work connected to its Lysol portfolio.
Reckitt said bringing R&D capabilities closer to its commercial organization is intended to shorten the path from product development to commercialization.
The company recently relocated its North American headquarters to Nutley and is now planning the next phase of the campus development with the new research facility.
North Carolina Manufacturing Investment Doubles
A significant portion of the spending will go toward Reckitt’s Wilson, North Carolina, manufacturing facility.
The company initially announced a $200 million investment in the site in 2024 after acquiring the facility. Reckitt has now doubled that investment, expanding the project’s scope and physical footprint.
Once completed, the Wilson facility will become Reckitt’s largest over-the-counter manufacturing site in the United States.
The plant will increase production of Mucinex tablets and liquids and will also support higher production volumes for Move Free, a joint-health supplement brand. The facility is scheduled to open in the first half of 2027.
Mucinex Production to Become More Localized
The Wilson expansion is expected to increase the amount of Mucinex production carried out domestically.
Reckitt previously said the facility would help expand U.S. production capacity for Mucinex and create a more localized supply chain for its leading cough and cold products. The original facility was approximately 310,000 square feet.
The expanded project will add manufacturing capacity and space for future capabilities, giving Reckitt greater flexibility as demand for consumer healthcare products changes.
The company has pointed to changing patterns in respiratory illness and fluctuations in seasonal demand as factors behind its efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing.
Supply-Chain Resilience Remains a Focus
Reckitt’s latest investment also reflects a broader effort to strengthen the resilience of its U.S. supply chain.
By increasing domestic production, the company expects to have greater flexibility in responding to shifts in demand and potential disruptions affecting international supply networks.
The Wilson facility is part of that strategy, with Reckitt previously describing U.S. manufacturing as a way to respond more quickly to consumer demand while reducing reliance on products manufactured overseas.
R&D and Manufacturing Expansion to Support Growth
The two projects give Reckitt a larger U.S. footprint spanning both product development and manufacturing.
The New Jersey investment will expand scientific capabilities, while the North Carolina project will increase production capacity for established consumer health products.
Reckitt said the combined investments are intended to accelerate innovation, improve responsiveness to consumer needs and support reliable access to its healthcare products.
The company operates consumer health and hygiene brands including Lysol, Mucinex, Durex, Finish, Gaviscon, Nurofen and Strepsils across more than 80 countries.
