Minghui Announces $131 Pre-IPO Funding to Support JAK Inhibitor Launch

-

Minghui Pharmaceutical has raised $131 million during a funding round the company labeled as ‘pre-IPO’. These funds are intended to support a pending launch of its dermatitis cream in China, to add to the several oncology and immunology assets currently in clinical development.

Operating in the late stage of clinical development, Minghui Pharmaceutical is a biopharmaceutical firm that concentrates on creating novel medications to fill treatment gaps in the fields of cancer and immunology. By drawing on a wealth of scientific knowledge and its own unique technology platforms, the company has established a strong and distinct pipeline of new treatments.

The company, based in Shanghai, explained that some of the money will assist in the anticipated commercial launch within China for MH004, a pan-JAK inhibitor topical cream that is currently in a Phase 3 study. An application for its approval is now under consideration by regulatory bodies in China, which follows a successful Phase 2 result against dermatitis in 2023.

A portion of the newly secured money will also advance Minghui’s diverse clinical pipeline. This includes MHB039A, a PD-1/VEGF bispecific antibody, and MHB036C, an antibody-drug conjugate targeting TROP-2. The company began a trial to assess the two assets as a combined treatment in a Phase 2 study for advanced non-small cell lung cancer that commenced in May.

Another asset is a B7-H3-targeted ADC known as MHB088C. During May, Qilu Pharmaceutical paid 280 million Chinese yuan – which amounts to $38 million – to secure the greater China rights to the therapy. This drug is currently being tested in studies for solid tumors, including in patient cohorts with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer as well as the small cell lung variant.

Minghui CEO Guoqing Cao stated in an August 7 release that the financing represented a significant point as the company progresses toward building a worldwide competitive portfolio and moves into its next phase of growth. He expressed appreciation for the trust and backing of investors and affirmed the company’s dedication to developing innovative pharmaceutical products aimed at improving patient outcomes globally.

The financing round that concluded was headed by a new investor, OrbiMed, along with Qiming Venture Partners. A prior supporter, TF Capital, participated in the fundraise alongside a group of other new investors, which included New Day Fund, 5Y Capital,, and Wider Link Enterprise Investment and BioTrack Capital.

Dr. David Wang, who works in a senior leadership role at OrbiMed Asia, remarked that Minghui had demonstrated notable scientific acumen, strong execution skills, and a distinctive portfolio. He added that they were eager to back the company as it moved toward commercialization and broadened its presence internationally.

Dr. Kan Chen, joint leader of Healthcare at Qiming Venture Partners, stated that Minghui had developed an impressive range of innovative drug candidates aimed at addressing significant unmet medical needs. He noted their satisfaction in supporting the company’s ongoing expansion and contributing to the delivery of transformative treatments to patients globally.
